Finding a Qualified Resume Writer for a...
Social Worker Resume

If you're a Social Worker, you know what your job entails. You work to improve the quality of life for your clients. You assist people in finding the right counseling resources, medical treatment, jobs, and programs that suit their needs. Your daily tasks involve meeting with clients and conducting assessments to gather information about what their needs are. You also make recommendations based on your expertise and knowledge.

The clientele that you work with may include unemployed individuals, mentally ill people, or individual with behavioral and issues and additional health issues. Other people with your job description work in hospitals, schools, mental health clinics, and other various locations.

The question is, now that you're looking for a position, can you find a resume writer who understands your occupation? A writer who talks your language? A writer who can craft a Social Worker resume that puts your best foot forward and scores the interview in a highly competitive marketplace? Former recruiter David Alan Carter recommends the following resume services for Social Workers... each with a Better Business Bureau score of "A" or better.

Considering a Career Move into Social Work?

If you're considering a move into Social Work from either a closely related field or from a totally unrelated profession, you'll be looking for a transitional resume -- and a talented resume writer to handle the assignment. Transitional resumes are some of the most difficult resume projects as they require a writer knowledgeable in at least two professions -- and the ability to identify transferable skills from one to the other.

Before you hand off that resume assignment, make sure you know enough about the job of a Social Worker to... a) really want it, and b) be able to step up to the plate. Here's a quick overview:

What You'll Do: Your job will likely entail either helping your clients cope with life problems or assisting in diagnosing and treating such problems. As a Healthcare Social Worker, for example, you would help to counsel and console a person who has just been diagnosed with a terminal illness. You will be available to speak with that person, offer moral support, and help him or her find additional resources to help him or her cope with learning about the illness. You may also aid a psychiatrist in diagnosing and treating a mental illness.

You may meet with a client to gather information about his or her symptoms and feelings. You can work closely with the doctor to establish a viable diagnosis. Additionally, you will help the doctor and the patient to decide on the best possible treatment regimen.

Other specialities include Child, Family and School Social Workers, as well as Clinical, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Social Workers.

Education and Training: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required for most social work positions, though some will require a master’s degree -- for example, clinical social work (involved in the diagnoses and treatment of mental, behavioral, and emotional issues).

Licensure is typically required and varies by state.

The Future: The Social Working profession is expected to grow at about 25% through 2020, which is faster than the average for all other occupations. The highest demand will be in the field of healthcare.

The Pay: As per Salary.com, annual salaries for Social Workers in the U.S. with a BSW (Bachelor in Social Work) range from $37,600 to $56,900, while the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a median annual wage of $42,400 for 2010. Those with an MSW (Masters in Social Work) can typically command more.

Still good? Got those occupational ducks in a row? Great. The next step is to prepare for a consultative telephone interview with your resume writer. Treat the coming job search like the business it is, and you'll do fine.

Best of luck,
David Alan Carter, OccupationalResumes.com
